Bengaluru: In a burst of energy and excitement, approximately 130 members of the BKCS family descended upon Sportico Resort on Sunday, 3 August, for what has become one of the year’s most eagerly anticipated outings.
After an early morning rendezvous—two buses arriving at St. Antony’s Friary Church and another at Jayanagar, alongside several participants in private transport—the group rolled into the resort by approximately 10:00 AM. Fr. Prashanth Fernandes, BKCS Spiritual Director and Parish Priest of St. Antony’s Friary Church, offered his blessings at the start of the day’s picnic, invoking hope for a successful gathering, joined by Fr. Simon A., OFM, Provincial Counsellor. BKCS picnic team had two doctors on hand, Dr. Preethesh from St. John’s and Dr. Smitha from Kidwai, to provide emergency medical support.
The event commenced with a moment of reflection through a collective prayer, setting a respectful and unified tone. This solemn opening was immediately followed by a warm welcome address delivered by Aida D’Cunha President BKCS and Former Chairperson of Federation of Konkani Catholic Associations (FKCA) who greeted the gathering and introduced the day's agenda. Energizing the proceedings, the enthusiastic emcee, Royston Monteiro, together with Nathaline Rodrigues – Secretary, BKCS and Roshan D'Souza, guided attendees through a dynamic series of lively activities and games. FKCA's Former Chairperson Valerian Fernandes along with his family as well as Immediate Past Chairman Silvian Noronha also attended the picnic.
To foster friendly rivalry and unity, participants were organized into four groups, each competing across a variety of engaging games that balanced teamwork with spirited fun. The pinnacle of the day’s festivities was undeniably the “Reverse Role Ramp Walk”—a hilariously delightful twist on the classic fashion walk. In this game, each team was challenged to dress one of their male members in women’s attire using the materials at hand. The creativity and humor displayed by the participants had everyone in splits—it was truly the highlight of the day.
After an enjoyable midday feast, the energy gradually shifted into relaxed enjoyment—a leisurely swim in the resort’s inviting pool offered the perfect respite and added a refreshing touch to the day’s festivities.
Later in the afternoon, the group reconvened for a warm round of evening tea—just in time as the day’s entertainment took a melodious turn. Percy Pereira led a spirited game of Antakshari. As participants sang in turn—each song beginning with the final letter of the previous one—the air filled with music, laughter, and collective nostalgia.
Following a delicious, hearty lunch, the BKCS family eased into a relaxing afternoon. Many members made their way to Sportico Resort’s inviting outdoor pool—a standout feature of the venue—where they enjoyed refreshing leisure, laughter, and a well-deserved break under the sun.
The day concluded with a spirited prize distribution ceremony, where winners of various games and activities were celebrated for their enthusiasm and teamwork. Following the ceremony, the group embarked on their journey back to Bengaluru, arriving at marking the end of a memorable and joy-filled outing. It was indeed a joyful and memorable picnic, filled with laughter, bonding, and togetherness.
