I see Myself – Poem
I see myself in the mirror and I am scared to smile, I hide my face with my trembling hands.
I begin to ponder why?
I hide my face with my trembling hands.
I begin to ponder why?
I do not fit.
I feel alien in this fancy world.
My hair is rough and dry,
Which makes me often cry.
My nose is fat and eyes seems dull
My double chin bothers me.
My flabby arms and bulging tummy are difficult to hide.
I try. Every day I try.
Creams and shampoos and other treatments.
Planks and crunches everything I have tried and cried.
You think I am obsessed?
No. I am tensed.
Tensed about not fitting in.
Fitting amongst you.
Dismayed I cry and look through the Window.
I see a little girl outside.
Her clothes were torn
Her hair unwashed and untied.
But she looked all fine
She Jumped with joy
She had no roof to cover her head.
Or fancy food in her plate.
No toys or creams to hide her sighs
Still, she smiled.
Looking at her I wondered,
What was I worried about?
My mere body and face.
I remembered; I had forgotten to thank my creator for what he had made.
Life is a gift.
All about spreading love and cheer.
Adding a sparkle in someone’s life, that’s all one should care.
All our glories will one day shatter
And to no one it shall matter.
I look back at the mirror
But this time with awe
I see how special I am,
Despite those several flaws.
My almighty values me beyond the man-made boundaries
I am more than the set hair and manicured nails
It was no longer about the degrees
Or money in the bank.
I am eyes that cry and lips that smile.
I am strong hands that hold and mighty womb that protects
I am and it’s me
Precious to the one above, I am his beauty.
Under his shade
I find myself
I see his best.
