On September 8, 2024, Karaval Milan, an association of parishioners from the Udupi diocese
residing in the UAE, came together to celebrate the traditional Monthi Feast, also known as the
Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The event took place at the Oud Mehta
residence of Association Director Wilson D’Sa, who warmly welcomed the gathering.
The celebration began with a beautiful procession led by children, who entered the hall to offer
flowers to Mother Mary. The congregation joined in singing traditional Konkani hymns, including
‘Sokkod Sangata Mellean’ and ‘Moriyek Hogollsiyan’, while the children joyfully showered
flowers to honor the Blessed Virgin. The devotional ceremony was conducted by KM Treasurer
Alban D’Silva, who led the prayers and proceedings with grace.
In his address, KM President Melwyn Cornelio praised the enthusiasm of the members, many
of whom donned traditional attire for the occasion, further enhancing the festive spirit. He also
took the opportunity to share exciting plans for upcoming events, as Karaval Milan gears up to
celebrate its Silver Jubilee next year.
The celebration featured a series of fun-filled games and competitions, with both children and
adults eagerly participating. Winners were later awarded prizes, adding to the festive joy of the
event.
The highlight of the gathering was the traditional coastal meal, ‘Novem Jevon,’ served on
banana leaves. The meal, complete with the traditional sweet dish Vorn, was enjoyed by all,
symbolizing the unity and heritage of the community.
The day concluded on a high note with a lively Baila dance, accompanied by music, which had
everyone on their feet. The joyful atmosphere and the shared moments of celebration created
lasting memories for all who attended.
Around 50 families and friends gathered to partake in this celebration, making the Karaval Milan
Monthi Feast a grand success in Dubai.
