Vijayanagar Konkani Catholic Association on Mar 8, 2026 organised a spiritually enriching Konkani
Lenten Retreat at St John the Baptist Church, Vijayanagar, bringing together members of the faithful
for a meaningful day of prayer, reflection, and fellowship.
The retreat was conducted by Rev. Fr. Nelson Pinto, OCD, currently the Director of Carmel Garments,
Jagalur, and former Director of the Mangalore Charismatic Retreat Centre. His presence and
guidance added depth and spiritual richness to the Lenten observance.
The programme commenced at 10:30 a.m. with an inspiring preaching session by Fr. Nelson, who led
the congregation into a profound reflection on the true significance of the Lenten season. His first
session, which continued until 1:00 p.m., focused on themes of repentance, inner renewal, and
strengthening one’s personal relationship with God.
At 1:00 p.m., the participants gathered for lunch thoughtfully arranged by the organisers. The shared
meal fostered a warm sense of fellowship and community among those present.
The second preaching session began at 1:30 p.m. and continued until 3:00 p.m. During this session,
Fr. Nelson guided the faithful through deeper spiritual reflections and helped prepare them for the
Sacrament of Reconciliation, encouraging introspection and spiritual healing.
From 3:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m., the atmosphere within the church became prayerful and contemplative
during Eucharistic Adoration. Many participants used this sacred time for silent prayer, thanksgiving,
and personal reconciliation with God.
The retreat culminated with a solemn Konkani Holy Mass celebrated from 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.,
marking the spiritual high point of the day. Following the Mass, a high tea was arranged by the
organisers, allowing participants to conclude the retreat in a spirit of joy and togetherness.
The programme concluded at 5:00 p.m., bringing to an end a grace-filled day that left the
participants spiritually renewed, strengthened in faith, and united as a community.
