Mangalorean Catholics across the globe celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of the
Blessed Virgin Mary, popularly known as Monthi Fest, with deep religious fervor and
joy. “Monthi” is the Konkani name for Mount Mother Mary. The Catholic Church
assigns birth celebrations only to Jesus Christ, St. John the Baptist, and Mother
Mary. The Nativity of Mother Mary is observed on September 8, exactly nine months
after December 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.
The Feast of the New Harvest coincides with Mother Mary’s birthday. As a gesture of
gratitude for nature’s bounty, the new crop is blessed, prayed over, and shared
among families in unity and thanksgiving.
Members of the Shirva Welfare Association Kuwait (SWAK), along with their families,
gathered at the basement of TRV Restaurant Building, Salmiya, Kuwait, on Friday,
September 12, 2025, at 12:30 PM to celebrate Monthi Fest with devotion .
The program commenced with an introductory note by Emcee and SWAK Public
Relations Officer, Mr. Clifford D’Souza, who highlighted the significance of the
triduum celebrations, the harvest festival, and the feast’s deep connection to family
unity and the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. He warmly welcomed members,
dignitaries, and guests, setting a vibrant tone for the celebration.
A traditional Thanksgiving prayer service followed, led by Mrs. Roshni Lobo, SWAK
Auditor. The congregation sang the devotional hymn “Sakkad Sangatha Melyan ani
Morriyek Hogalsiyan” in unison. Children and adults together offered flowers to
Mother Mary (Maria Bambina), creating a spiritually uplifting atmosphere.
The Chief Guests for the occasion were Rev. Fr. Avil Manoj Rosario, Assistant Parish
Priest and Bursar of St. Daniel Comboni Parish, Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh and SWAK

guests. He, along with SWAK Secretary Mrs. Lona D’Souza, felicitated the priests,
dignitaries, presidents of other notable associations in Kuwait, sponsors, and donors
with floral bouquets in appreciation of their valuable contributions.

milk to all attendees, symbolizing gratitude for the new harvest and family unity.

togetherness within the community.
A special video message from V. Rev. Dr. Leslie Clifford D’Souza, SWAK Native
Correspondent, was screened during the event, inspiring attendees with reflections
on unity and Mother Mary’s loving protection.
Adding a lively touch to the celebration, host Mr. Clifford D’Souza conducted spot
games and prizes, including Marian-themed activities that engaged participants of all
age groups. A spirited round of Housie-Housie, supported by the SWAK committee
and President, brought further excitement to the gathering.
The pinnacle highlight of the day was the traditional vegetarian festive meal (Novem
Jevann), lovingly prepared by Flavours Catering Group and served on banana
leaves in authentic Mangalorean style. Dining together as one family beautifully
reflected the true essence of Monthi Fest. Grace before meals was led by Rev. Fr.
Stephen Praveen D’Souza.
