In a remarkable display of self discipline, determination, and the transformative potential of online learning, 26 year old Shreyans Gomes, hailing from Udupi, has earned the 372nd rank in the prestigious UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024–25.
The final results were officially released on April 22, 2025, extending heartfelt celebrations across his family, friends, and the entire coastal Karnataka community. What sets his achievement apart: Shreyans cleared the exam in his third attempt, entirely through self study online, without joining any traditional coaching institutes.
Born in Murudeshwar (Uttara Kannada Dist.), Shreyans Gomes is the son of Santyag Juje Gomes, a station master with Konkan Railways, and homemaker Mable Shanthi Gomes. He completed his early education locally, moved to Alva’s College in Moodbidri for his pre-university studies, and later earned an engineering degree from Bengaluru’s prestigious R V College of Engineering.
During his engineering years, Shreyans found himself drawn to the idea of civil service, inspired by a deep desire to serve the nation and an appreciation for administration. Motivated by these convictions, he embarked on the UPSC journey entirely on his own.
His first attempt saw him clear the Preliminary stage but fall short in the Mains. The second attempt also ended at the Preliminary stage. Undeterred, he redoubled his efforts, refining his approach and preparation strategy.
On his third try, Shreyans cleared all three stages—Prelims, Mains, and the Interview—successfully. Remarkably, he achieved this while relying solely on online resources and self-study, forgoing traditional coaching centers, thus exemplifying the strength of digital learning.
He now awaits official appointment instructions from the government.
To fellow aspirants, Shreyans advises: “If you’re thinking about the UPSC exam, go for it—don’t worry about whether your background is in science, commerce, or arts. With internal motivation and commitment, anyone can succeed.” He emphasized that UPSC offers a level playing field and that success comes from consistency, hard work, and perseverance. Additionally, he urged aspirants to avoid overthinking results, combining sincere hard work with smart strategies, and letting outcomes follow naturally.
Shreyans’s journey—anchored in perseverance, clarity, and digital self-reliance—is a powerful call to action for the youth of coastal Karnataka and beyond: dream boldly, prepare wisely, and stay the course.
