United Pangalites (UPA) Celebrates Monthi Fest 2024 in Dubai with Vibrant Community Spirit

United Pangalites Association (UPA), which proudly celebrated its 20th anniversary last year, hosted the Monthi Fest 2024 at Smana Hotel, Bur Dubai, on September 15. The event, held to honor the Nativity of Mother Mary, brought together over 120 Pangalites and guests, highlighting the strong bonds and rich cultural traditions of the Pangalite diaspora in the UAE.

The festivities began with a warm welcome speech, followed by a delightful prayer dance performance by UPA’s youngest members. This charming act set the tone for the evening, encapsulating the spirit of joy and devotion. A heartwarming procession of children carrying flowers circled a beautifully adorned statue of Infant Mary (Monti Saibin), adding a sense of innocence and reverence to the celebration. The congregation then engaged in a prayer session, accompanied by traditional Konkani hymns like "Sokkod Sangatha Meliya" and "Moriek Hogolsia," as the children offered flowers to Infant Mary. The distribution of the Blessed Novem marked the official commencement of the festivities.

UPA children, Christon Dsouza and Viola Alva, skillfully emceed the event, keeping the audience engaged with their lively and energetic demeanor. The celebration was further elevated by the presence of esteemed guests, including Mr. Joseph Mathias, the main coordinator of St. Mary’s Mangalorean Community (SMMC) and Managing Director of Merit Freight Systems, as well as well-wishers Mr. Nelson Rodricks, Mr. Dayan Dsouza, and Mr. Ronald Fernandes. UPA President, Mrs. Sweeny Dsouza, extended a heartfelt welcome to all, while UPA Treasurer, Sohan Castelino, provided an inspiring report on the organization’s charitable efforts over the past year.

The event also included fun and engaging activities, with spot games organized by Sohan Castelino, bringing joy and laughter to all participants. A lively game of Housie drew enthusiastic involvement from attendees of all ages. UPA members delighted the audience with energetic dance and skit performances, showcasing the community's creativity and talent.

In an exciting announcement, UPA revealed an upcoming drawing competition for children, aimed at nurturing creativity and engagement among the younger generation.

The evening concluded with a traditional vegetarian feast, featuring the much-loved "Novem Jevaan," complete with the dessert, vorn, which added a nostalgic touch to the celebration.

Monthi Fest 2024 was a resounding success, not only commemorating the birth of Mother Mary but also strengthening the unity and cultural pride of the Catholic Christian community in the UAE. The event served as a reminder of the enduring faith and camaraderie that continues to thrive within the Pangalite diaspora, leaving lasting memories for all in attendance
