On the occasion of International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD) 2026, observed on February 15
Federation of Konkani Catholic Associations (FKCA) strengthened ongoing cancer month Initiative
with second outreach at KMIO. The team visited the Kapur Paediatric Ward at Kidwai Memorial
Institute of Oncology (KMIO), Bengaluru on Friday morning Mar 20th 2026. FKCA provided crucial
supportive medicines during the visit, assisting in the life-saving treatment of children fighting
cancer and bringing much-needed relief and encouragement to their families.
Dr. Arun Kumar, Professor and Head of the Department of Paediatric Oncology at KMIO, addressed
the team, commending their noble initiative and provided an overview of the cases currently under
treatment in the ward. He highlighted the difficulties faced by parents from other states, who are
unable to access government support and must rely on the generosity of donors to help their
children cope during such challenging times. He also noted that the hospital administration plans to
establish Kidwai Cancer Care Centres in select cities across Karnataka, enabling patients to receive
treatment closer to home and reducing the burden and costs of long-distance travel.
Dr. Arun Kumar also addressed questions from the FKCA team regarding health and lifestyle
practices, including dietary recommendations, sleep habits, and the benefits of having dinner before
6:30 p.m. He emphasized that adopting these habits consistently over time can lead to long-term
well-being and gradually a way of life. FKCA is exploring opportunities to host Dr. Arun Kumar for a
session with a broader audience, where he can provide valuable guidance on healthcare and
wellness.
