Konkani Rakhan Sanchalan Chikmagalur Celebrates Monthi Festh



On 16th Sep, 2024, around 650 parishioners from the Chikmagalur Diocese came together to celebrate the Monthi Festh, a traditional Konkani harvest festival, with great enthusiasm and devotion.

The celebration took place at Hallihittalu Estate in Sundekere, Hassan District. The Holy Mass was led by Fr. Xavier Lobo, with a thought-provoking sermon delivered by Charles Menezes. The choir for the event was led by Sri JNJ Lobo, the choir master from the Mudigere unit, enhancing the spiritual atmosphere.

Following the Mass, a cultural program was inaugurated by Mr. Stany Alvares, President of the Konkani Sahitya Academy, Karnataka, who also delivered the Presidential address.

The Chikmagalur Cathedral Unit performed a welcome dance, setting the tone for the evening. A traditional Siddi dance by performers from Haliyal, Uttara Kannada District, captivated the audience, while the Vaz Brass Band from Neermarga provided lively entertainment throughout the event.

Mr. Lawrence D’Souza, a prominent coffee planter and Konkani writer from Kadabagere Parish, was felicitated for his significant contributions to the association and his efforts in promoting Konkani masses in Chikmagalur parishes.

His dedication continues to inspire the community.

The evening also saw Mr. Stany D’Silva of Hallihittalu Estates being thanked for his generous contributions towards the dinner and other arrangements. President Jockim welcomed Sri Stany D’Silva, the event’s principal donor.

Secretary Vivian D’Souza presented the annual report, and Treasurer Sylvester Saldanha acknowledged the efforts of Pramod Pinto, an active member of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and a key representative for Chikmagalur and Hassan District.
