On September 14th, 2024, the Konkani Catholic community in Germany gathered at St. Christophorus Church, Frankfurt, to celebrate the Monthi Fest, a cherished tradition that honors the Nativity of Mother Mary. The event brought together members and friends not only from across Germany but also from neighboring countries like the Netherlands, Austria, and Switzerland. The celebration cultivated a profound sense of togetherness and enriched the community’s shared devotion.
The day began with the veneration of Mother Mary, during which the congregation offered flowers in a touching display of faith. The veneration was beautifully complemented by a choir led by Jeevitha Lora. The prayers were conducted by the sisters of the Bethany congregation, whose contribution to both the liturgy and the event’s stunning decorations was immense.
Following the veneration, the Eucharistic celebration was officiated by Fr. Melwyn Rosario and Fr. Jason Anthony. The solemn Mass was deeply appreciated by all attendees, with special thanks extended to the Fathers and Bethany sisters for their invaluable support and service.
Post the religious ceremonies, the congregation moved to the church hall for the cultural festivities. The hall buzzed with excitement as Secretary Milind Lobo and Vice President Curran Dsouza of Konkani Kutam welcomed the gathering, setting the stage for a memorable afternoon. The hosts for the event—Jane Mascarenhas, Waylon Machado, and Roel Dsouza—kept the atmosphere lively, leading the day’s activities with charm and enthusiasm.
One of the event’s highlights was the unveiling of the newly redesigned Konkani Kutam logo. Designed by Karen Dantis, the logo emerged from a competition held in the days leading up to the event. The official reveal, conducted by President Keeth Noronha and Vice President Curran Dsouza, was met with applause, symbolizing a fresh chapter for the community.
The cultural program offered a rich variety of entertainment, including the much-anticipated auction of organic vegetables and plants. The standout item of the auction was an impressive pumpkin weighing over 30 kilos, generously donated by a community member. The bidding created a joyful buzz among attendees.
Additional highlights included captivating solo song performances, a comedy skit that had everyone in stitches, and lively baila dances, where attendees danced to the vibrant beats of DJ Jaison D’Souza. The infectious energy of the music truly captured the essence of the celebration.
The event was a remarkable success, thanks to the tireless efforts of volunteers and organizers. President Keeth Noronha expressed heartfelt gratitude to the entire team, emphasizing how their dedication turned the event into a memorable experience for all.
For those unable to attend in person, the entire celebration was live-streamed on YouTube, ensuring that the community’s joy could be shared far and wide.
