Konkani Kutam e. V. Binding People Together with Love
About Konkani Kutam e.V. in Germany and the wonderful initiatives that promote a sense of community and togetherness:
Since its establishment in 2003 with a small group of Mangalore and Goan Konkani speakers, Konkani Kutam e.V. has flourished into a lively gathering of over 150 members, including many students pursuing their studies in Germany. Guiding this remarkable journey is Fr. Robert Rego, a founding member and steadfast advocate for the association's mission.
Konkani Kutam holds the distinction of being the sole registered association in Germany serving the Konkani-speaking community in the European region (excluding the UK). Rooted in its commitment to fostering connection and inclusivity, the association orchestrates a variety of events throughout the year, leveraging innovative technologies to bring its members together.
Under the capable stewardship of President Keeth Shan Noronha, Vice President Curran Heath D'Souza, Treasurer Oliver Saldanha, and Secretary Milind Lobo, Konkani Kutam continues to forge ahead since 2022.
A highlight in the association's calendar is the annual Montifest, a joyous celebration that draws participants from near and far, including neighboring countries such as the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium, and Switzerland. The event begins with a solemn Mass attended by over 150 devotees, followed by a vibrant cultural showcase featuring traditional Baila songs and dances, comedy skits, and captivating dance performances. The crowning moment of the festivities is the eagerly awaited auction of organic vegetables and plants, generously contributed by members. A sumptuous lunch, lovingly prepared by volunteers, adds a delicious touch to the occasion.
In 2023, Montifest took on added significance as it marked the 20th anniversary of Konkani Kutam. The jubilant gathering brought together families and friends from near and far, with the day's festivities commencing with a heartfelt tribute to Mother Mary. The atmosphere was filled with soulful hymns sung by the Konkani choir and prayers led by the sisters of the Bethany congregation.
Looking ahead, Konkani Kutam is set to delight its members with a series of exciting events, including sports extravaganzas paired with traditional German Grill fests. Enthusiasts can anticipate participating in Mangalore's beloved tradition of Dori Odchi (Tug of war), alongside enjoying a variety of delicious cocktails complemented by mouthwatering German BBQ.
The Christmas party, a cherished tradition held during the 1st advent, offers members an opportunity to revel in the joy of togetherness as they share traditional Kuswar and enjoy an evening filled with laughter and music.
Konkani Kutam e.V. stands as a shining example of the power of community and the enduring bonds fostered through shared heritage and mutual affection. As it continues to grow and expand its reach, the association remains dedicated to nurturing a sense of belonging and solidarity among its members, weaving together the rich tapestry of Konkani culture in the heart of Germany.
